MELBOURNE FORAGING COLLECTIVE

Saffron Milk Cap Mushrooms

WELCOME!

So many of us wander through the bush, forest or coastline, unaware of the abundance beneath our feet. Mushrooms hiding among autumn leaves, native bush fruits in the summer sun, and leafy greens after spring rains.

You’ll find herbs for perfume, fungi for dye, and weeds for weaving. Nature provides everything if we know what to look for.

We are part of the ecosystem. We are caretakers of the earth, and in return, it shares its wild gifts.

If you're new to foraging, you’ve stumbled upon the right spot! I hope you'll feel inspired to get lost in nature, experiment with some new foods, and share your discoveries.
There’s always something new to discover.

Kath

Meet Kath:
Kath forages just about anything: mushrooms, bushtucker, wild fruit, seaweed, and lots more.

After injuring her spine a few years ago, she found herself embracing local foraging. You'd be surprised what you can find just by taking a short walk around the block!

Kath runs edible weed walks along the Darebin Creek. When chronic pain keeps her closer to home, she spends her time writing about plants and mushrooms so others can learn. She also helps administer some online foraging groups, helping people identify what they find.

Michael & Stelios

Meet Michael:
Michael will travel far and wide looking for the best foraging spots! He knows that some of the best ingredients can be found growing wild, particularly mushrooms. Michael and his husband Stelios are both former chefs, and they love going foraging together and cooking up a storm!

Michael runs our Saffron Milkcap workshops around Mount Macedon, which are great for beginners. He'll teach you the basics of mushroom foraging, show you exactly what to look for, and help you learn how to forage safely and responsibly.

Rob

Meet Rob:
Rob loves all things fungi! He enjoys discovering and identifying all sorts of mushrooms, from the edible ones that are great to eat to the fascinating fungi that play an important role in our ecosystem.

Rob leads our mushroom identification workshops in Emerald, as well as our cultivation classes.

Rob previously worked as a butcher, but after an accident left him with chronic pain, he developed an interest in herbalism. Nature has given us an incredible range of medicinal plants and fungi, and we're still discovering what they can do.
